I am a development economist with extensive experience in impact evaluation and social impact assessment, including experimental and quasi-experimental designs, mixed-methods approaches, and theory-based evaluation frameworks.
I am currently based in Addis Ababa, focusing my work and research interests on Ethiopia, East Africa, and the Middle East. That’s what I talk about in my Substack!
Throughout my career, I have held leadership and senior advisory roles in the evaluation and international and social development sectors. I currently work as an Advisor to the Chairman of the Department of Community Development, in Abu Dhabi, where I am assisting the development and implementation of evidence-based tools and strategies to guide policy-making and enhance programme design and delivery. I was previously Senior Director and Quantitative Impact Evaluation (QIE) Hub Lead in the Evaluation Practice at Verian (formerly Kantar Public), and Principal Consultant and QIE Lead in the Research and Evidence Practice at Oxford Policy Management (OPM). I have also worked as an independent consultant for several international organisations including The World Bank, UN FAO and UNICEF. I have been Project Director, Team Leader, and Principal Investigator of several large mixed-methods impact evaluations, across different clients, countries, and sectors.
